YOGA
As a well cut diamond has many facets, each reflecting a different color of light, so does the word yoga, each facet reflecting a different shade of meaning and revealing different aspects of the entire range of human endeavor to win inner peace and happiness.” ~LIGHT ON YOGA .” B.K.S. Iyengar
YOGA has made me a believer of so many other wonderful things in life. Mainly a believer in myself and all of my own inner purposes and meaning. Learning Yoga at the age of 44 all over again last year in 2015 was like stepping into an amusement park filled with light and love. How could I have not stayed with this?
I could blame it on the fact I was a runner and a spinner and really addicted to harder cardio workouts. I could blame it on the fact that I was younger. But what I have learned as a middle-aged newbie yogi is it does not matter. Why when or how, at least I arrived at my Yoga Mat in 2015 and I am here for life.
I used to be one of those that sort of frowned down on the “Yoga Community,” like, “Really? All that stretching and you feel good about yourself. That’s marvelous. But why don’t you get out and run, right?”
Well.
Yes.
That was then. And this is now. If you are reading this and you are a Yogi of any kind you know what a ridiculous thought that is because Yoga is one of the hardest things I have ever done. Well at least Ashtanga Yoga. And I am always so humbled by what it teaches me when I practice it each week. Since I am a writer and I love Yoga, I decided to add my daily thoughts, progress reports and share with you how yoga changes my life and helps me find more happiness. My books are all geared toward developing self-love and learning to take care of ourselves first so we can then take care of those we love the most, too.
B. K. S. Iyengar states in his book, LIGHT ON YOGA, “Yoga destroys all pain and sorrow.”
I believe this to be true. I do. I know that this practice has changed me from the inside and out. I am smiling more and loving myself more because when you practice yoga, you are where you are and you are inside your body and you get to know your body very well. Like it or hate it, you will learn what is up with yoru body each day on a yoga mat. And you might even find yourself loving yourself and the way you are on your journey. Thanks for stopping by! I look forward to sharing with you my love for Yoga.
