According the the study by Columbia University Medical Center, researchers found “27 percent more likely to suffer a heart attack.” The study was published in the American Journal of Cardiology. Their findings, “That people who feel a high degree of stress in their lives are 27 percent more likely to develop heart disease or die from heart disease. That makes long-term stress a moderate risk factor for heart disease, comparable to smoking five cigarettes a day, or a small increase in blood pressure or cholesterol.”
And according the article in Harvard Health: “Two studies — one involving Harvard Medical School and the Lown Cardiovascular Research Institute; the other, several Canadian medical colleges — concluded that among both men and women with established heart disease, those suffering from an anxiety disorder were twice as likely to have a heart attack as those with no history of anxiety disorders.”
After many years of studying the science behind wellbeing and connecting our thoughts to our daily lives, you can imagine how exciting it was to find all of the psychology woven together in
the “Yoga Sutras,” in which I read through the book “The Heart Of Yoga” by TKV Desikachar. This book complied by Patañjali are a collection of 196 suggestions on how to experience, practice, manifest, which helps liberate us from the conundrum of negativity and circular thinking (For example, when you have a disturbed feeling that your mind continues to dwell on, over and over).
My first three books, MIDDLE AGE BEAUTY, LIVE LOVE SOUL, and Happy Soul, later published as SPIRITUAL encapsulates these suggestions as well, sharing with the reader ways to carve out an abundant feeling of joy in little moments in the NOW of their journey.
In The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman explored the story of one man’s personal struggle with a guru he finds at a gas station nearby on why when he accomplishes goals, the feeling of inner happiness can be just out of reach. I remember reading this book during the mid nineties feeling such a deep and profound connection to experiencing similar feelings.
As an actress in theater and studied character development, I studied story plots and motivations behind a characters feelings for 10 years. From the Stella Adler Theater Group, The Groundlings, John Kirby Acting Studio, Natalia Nogulich Theater group, acting professionally and in plays in small theater groups that aligned the streets of Hollywood, I loved studying emotional make-up of each role, delving into the WHYS of human behavior.
Why are they behaving this way? Why would I feel like this if that happened? How can I experience exactly what the character’s experiencing? Is it possible to experience the truth of this character’s emotions, too? What is their truth? What is my truth? How can I convey that emotion truthfully and feel as it it myself rather than the character?
According to Brainstorm Productions, “Theater is a gym for empathy. Not only are our mirror neurons activating when we watch a theater performance, we are also practicing how to understand others.”
Taking time during my twenties to learn personal development of self steeped in theater and helped me identify fundamental reoccurring themes that appeared in many different plots with a central theme: the main character in search of something more to fill the void. I just loved learning about these characters, their goals and dreams. Just like in theater, we have our own desires, must-attend-to-life circumstances that can be stressful each day.

One of the early pioneers of self-book popularity, NORMAN VINCENT PEALE was first gifted to me by Lula Gauss, my Grandmother. I am always so grateful she took time to mail me those little dose of love sent in positivity pamphlets. “The Art of Daily Happiness,” is similar to those little pamphlets I loved, with only one motivation in mind:
To inspire the reader to care-take their daily happiness just like a gardener would of their own prized rose garden.
Wishing you an Inspired Mind,
